There was a time, not too distant, when "Save The Whales" was a joke. But now, just a few decades later, opposition to whale hunting is a mainstream Australian view. Our foreign minister perfectly comfortable speaking out on their behalf, as she did the other day when Japan killed 300 whales, including 200 pregnant females in Antarctica. Their status has grown rapidly; they're now majestic creatures, the oceanic equivalent of the noble lion, king of the jungle.

One of the largest campaigns ever seen in Bathurst stood against Council plans to sell the town’s recycled water to a gold mine near Blayney earlier this year.  Regis Resources made a bid to purchase 8-10ML of Bathurst’s recycled water which is currently released into the Macquarie Wambool River. The bid included plans to construct a pipeline to divert the water to their Kings Plain MacPhillamy’s mine site.

Bathurst’s extended CBD area currently has an estimated 2% street tree canopy cover that compares very poorly with the recent survey of 39 council areas in NSW where the benchmark is 15% to 20%.
