BCCAN has been working on a local response to a global challenge since 2007. We always keep in mind how we can best integrate climate adaptation and mitigation strategies when addressing local environmental issues.
Our Mission
To support Bathurst and the wider Central West to transition to a sustainable, regenerative, post-carbon economy with net zero emissions by 2035.
We’re motivated by passion for our local environment, and we strive to connect with individuals and organisations in our region who care about making a genuine difference!
Our Objectives
In order to achieve our mission of a more sustainable Bathurst we have identified key objectives.
Educate our Community about the Climate Emergency
Increase the use of Renewable Energy Technologies
Increase the production and use of Local Goods & Services
Install Rainwater Tanks in 70% of All Domestic Dwellings
Increase the use of Recycled Water for Irrigation & Industrial Purposes to 60%
Plant more Trees and Vegetation in Urban and Rural Spaces
A Few Words from Our Founders
An ethos has been introduced to BCCAN to help foster a focus of compassion and support the community in these times of compounding crises and the likelihood of more intense events to come.
What We Do
We explore various issues affecting our community including the Climate Emergency, water security, food security, waste production, wildlife and habitat protection, fossil fuel consumption, transport systems, consumption patterns, population growth and economic development.
We write letters, distribute petitions, host community events and help educate people about environmental issues. We have a stall at the Bathurst Farmers Markets every fourth Saturday of the month between 8am and 12pm and regularly publish our “EcoNews” articles in the Western Advocate.
