Bathurst Community Climate Action Network is joining other climate action and environment groups around the nation tomorrow (Saturday, June 30, 2018) to say NO NEW COAL.

“We can say yes to renewables but we also need to say no to coal and coal seam gas,” BCCAN President Tracy Sorensen said. “Coal mined in Australia and burned here and overseas is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. We have alternative technology ready to go; we just need the political will to drive the transition to a low-carbon economy. Everyone knows this is the way of the future, so let’s get on with it.

“While Bathurst woman Stephanie Luke had charges against her dismissed for her protest action at the Wilpinjong coal mine near Mudgee, the expansion of the Peabody-owned mine that led to the protest action is going ahead. Instead of phasing out coal, as they must do to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, state and federal governments are continuing to allow expansions of existing mines and the building of new ones.”
